Rootsclub

The music
The name says it all. Rootsclub. An Amsterdam based band that explores the rich tradition of American roots music and that creates something new and special along the way. Their debut album proves it in a glorious way. You don't have to live in Texas to be a Texan. If you catch our drift.

The beginning
2003. Bert Boot, Jan the Lazyman and Rik van Doorn start the Rootsclub. A monthly Americana night in Maloe Melo, world famous honky tonk in Amsterdam. At last there was a Dutch stage for musicians with a deep passion for American Roots Music.

The breakthrough
2004. The monthly Rootsclub becomes a hype in the Amsterdam music scene. Lots of famous singer-songwriters and musicians come to visit and more importantly, to play. To drop a few names: Tim Easton, Joshie Kohn, Wilma’s, Broken Spoke, Sonny James and the Sinners,Steve Conte (New York Dolls, Mink Deville), Goesting, Hillbilly Boogiemen,Sophie Zijl, Tonya Lamm en Sar Bell (Tres Chicas), Marcel Scherpenzeel, T-99, Hackensaw Boys,Claude Bernard (The Gourds), BeRightBack,Johnny Dowd, Nels Andrews & Jeffrey Richards.

The band
2005. The nine piece band that is central to Rootsclub has become a well oiled musical machine, a monster in its own right. More and more they also play outside Maloe Melo. They can be seen and heard at the prestigious Crossing Border Festival, together with writer Jan van Mersbergen, the yearly April party at the Nieuwmarkt. De Hartjesdagen, Bam vol Kunsten in Bergen, Bevrijdingfestival in Amsterdam Oost, Straatfestival in Hooge Zwaluwe (Brabant), Stars and Bars in Delft. Every show is a party.

The cd
After three years the monthly nights in Maloe Melo came to an end. Time to move on. And especially time to start recording the music of Rootsclub. And that's where one story ends and another one starts. This is chapter one of the second book. The debut album, recorded in E-Sound Studios in Weesp. It will be released the beginning of february on Rosa Records. www.rosarecords.nl
