[DECEMBER 2007]
Michael Dean Damron & Thee Loyal Bastards
At last! Here it is! The first CD by Michael Dean Damron & Thee Loyal Bastards, aptly titled Bad Days Ahead. It will be in stores the second week of January, but you can order it now on www.rosarecords.nl (click "shop") and it will arrive in your mailbox before Christmas.
The truth can be a downright ugly and thankless business, but one that Michael Dean Damron takes great pride in conducting. As the frontman for I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House, he spent the first half of this decade cutting his teeth on the finer points of delivering sermon-like epithets and exposing his own personal demons that has resulted not only in an impressive body of work but the art of truth telling, for better or worse. After 4 albums (three studio and one live), half of one in the can and a plethora of tours, Mike pulled the plug on Sonofabitch.
Somewhere in between, however, he provided us with a glimpse of what to expect after the dust settled. In 2005 he released a solo album, Perfect Day For A Funeral that gave some indication that he may have needed some breathing room. Now his restlessness is to come to a boil with Bad Days Ahead, his first post-SOB release with his new backing band, Thee Loyal Bastards.

Christmas offer: first nine releases for USD 16!
Good news for those who still don't own all the Rosa-CD's. We lowered the price of the first nine releases. You can order them for just 11 euros apiece (approximately 16 dollars).
For those who get this newsletter for the first time, a quick glance at those records:
- Julia P's Making up For Lost Time is wonderful melodic music (cf. Beach Boys, Mamas & Papas) by our favorite Amsterdam lady.
- Mike Gunther & His Restless Souls' Burn It Down For The Nails is not only one of the most original but also one of the best records of this century. Who would ever think that it was possible to combine Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis, Captain Beefheart, Tom Waits and a crazy Southern preacher?
- Kevn Kinney's S.T.A.R.'s Comin' Round Again is a masterpiece by the frontman of Southern rockers Drivin' 'N' Cryin'.
- Bellwether's The Stinging Nettles is one of the most beautiful alt.country-records of the last few years.
- Wheels On Fire's self titled debut comes directly from the garage, rock 'n' roll at it's most dangerous (the way it is supposed to be).
- Denvis is the leader of loud Dutch rockers The Spades. His solo album Comin' Home is Americana at its best.
- The Dam is the band of legendary Outsiders-guitar player Ron Splinter. Their CD Beautiful Trash delivers exactly what the title promises.
- The Dexateens are bloodbrothers of Drive-By Truckers and their Hardwire Healing is co-produced by DBT's Patterson Hood.
- Chris Allen was the front man of the criminally neglected band Rosavelt. His Goodbye Girl And The Big Apple Circus is produced by Don Dixon (R.E.M.) and contains sharp-edged pop music (think Paul Westerberg).

The other releases
- Rootsclub is the best roots band in the Netherlands. Their self titled debut proves it.
- The .357 String Band hail from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Ghost Town is really great punky bluegrass (or call it streetgrass, or, better still… listen to it).
- Jaap Boots' Afkuil is a divorve-CD, shameless and honest and it quite deservedly got great reviews.
- Mother Superior's Three Headed Dog is rock music by a veteran band who time and again show that they are some of the best musicians around. Their Rosa-release is partly produced by Daniel Lanois (U2, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan).
Rosa in Heaven
It's possible now to order Rosa In Heaven, the CD with 13 songs from the Rosa-catalogue, which was part of the September/ October issue of Heaven Magazine. It's only 5 euros (approx USD 7.35). Tracks:
1. Julia P: Sunshine (electric)
2. Mother Superior: Let Her Go
3. Wheels On Fire: Kick The Wicket
4. Chris Allen: Tilt-A-Whirl
5. Bellwether: A Little Rain
6. The Dexateens: Fyffe
7. Mike Gunther & His Restless Souls: I Don't Wanna Know (What I Don't Wanna Know)
8. Jaap Boots: Eens Op Een Maandag
9. Kevn Kinney's S.T.A.R.: Covered By An Underground Umbrella
10. The Dam: Trash Girl
11. The .357 String Band: Here Comes Hell
12. Rootsclub: Slowboat
13. Denvis: All Shot Down
The plans for 2008
We will follow Bad Days Ahead of Michael Dean Damron & Thee Loyal Bastards with releases by Chili Cold Blood (loud music from Austin, Texas), Tarantella (experimental and beautiful music from Denver, Colorado), a new solo album by Kevn Kinney (what we heart so far is truly great), new CD's by Mike Gunther, Mother Superior, Wheels On Fire and the .357 String Band.
