Rosa Records Newsletter November 2006

Denvis on the road
He just finished a succesful tour through the States and Canada with his band The Spades. So now it's time to be Denvis again, the solo artist that surprised all his friends and enemies on his Rosa Records-cd Comin' Home. Americana from the Lowlands with a twist. Some say he sounds like Southside Johnny, some even say he sounds like Joe Cocker, but everyone agrees: he sounds great. Go see him. To promote his album he will tour with his big band The Real Deal. These are the dates:
  • November 30 in 013 in Tilburg with De Dijk
  • December 8 in De Effenaar in Eindhoven with Rowwen Hèze
  • December 14 in De Melkweg in Amsterdam as Denvis & The Real Deal
  • January 13, 8PM30 in the foyer of De Oosterpoort in Groningen at Noorderslag Go see him and find out where all those stories come from.

Julia P
Our favourite woman Julia P, it's no coincidence that her album Makin' Up For Lost Time is the very first Rosa Records release, has a show in 013 in Tilburg on November 30, together with The Ian Fays and The Cuties on a All Girl Indie Night.

Wheels On Fire
The eponymous Rosa-debut of this band from Athens, Ohio, produced by studio genius Teddy Morgan, is still a radio hit. Boogie Nights, every working day from 19 till 20 hrs on the Concertzender, started the hype. The rest followed. It's the best, the dirtiest and most energetic rock & roll made so far in this century.

The Dam
It never was more crowded upstairs at the Paradiso than on the evening of October 24. The Dam celebrated the release of Beautiful Trash, their first album. The first reactions from Spain and the USA are very encouraging. There are still a lot of Outsiders-fans all over the world and they find a lot of the spirit of that band in The Dam, thanks to the great guitar playing of Ron Splinter. Jeff Conolly, leader of the cult band The Lyres, loves the record and promised us that he won't rest before it's a hit in the USA. If you want to book the band you can contact singer Jerry Turner. His mobile number is: +31(0)610770309. The Dam also has a site: www.the-dam.nl.

The Dexateens
That new album by the Dexateens, Hardwire Healing, gets rave reviews everywhere. And rightly so. Drive-By Trucker Patterson Hood co-produced it and it's great. They kicked ass on their European tour and the writer of Mojo magazine declared them the best live band he saw the last years. So now they're not only the pride of Alabama, they are also the pride of Rosa Records. For those who haven't heard them, visit www.myspace.com/dexateens.

Chris Allen and Rootsclub
The first week of January sees the release of Goodbye Girl And The Big Apple Circus, the solo album by Chris Allen, former front man of Rosavelt. The record, that we at Rosa Records consider breathtakingly brilliant (to put it mildly) is produced by Don Dixon and is a treat for those who love Paul Westerberg and other pop music with balls.
In February Rosa Records releases the debut by Rootsclub, the band that carries on where Lazy Sunday Dream left off. Roots music at its best.
