Mother Superior Three Headed Dog The question What do musical giants like Daniel Lanois, Henry Rollins, Tony Visconti, Alice Cooper, Emmylou Harris, Sparks, Scott Ian, Wayne Kramer, Lemmy, George Clinton, Iggy Pop, Queens of the Stone Age have in common? The answer They have all worked with Mother Superior, a Los Angeles based trio made up of guitarist/vocalist Jim Wilson, bassist Marcus Blake and drummer Matt Tecu. Mother Superior has survived on a reputation as first-class musicians, solid songwriters and they are also in high demand for Los Angeles session work. Many top acts have recorded their songs or used the group itself as a backing band. In fact, Meat Loaf has just covered their song Whore for his latest single. Mother Superior continuously attracts a strong and devoted following by touring the world and performing an average of 150 live shows per year. They have built a reputation playing packed clubs and rock festivals and have received rave reviews for their energetic performances. Rolling Stone has described them as “Led Zeppelin with a full erection, Decca-period Rolling Stones, and early ZZ Top with the fury of the Stooges.” The All Music Guide mentions them in one breath with Gov't Mule and The Black Crowes. They have toured and recorded with producer/performer Daniel Lanois and recently he joined them onstage for shows at L.A. clubs like the Roxy and Spaceland. He produced two songs on the band's new CD Three Headed Dog (their ninth and definitely their best) on which he also plays pedal steel guitar and mandolin. Mother Superior have also traveled the world with punk rock icon and good friend Henry Rollins and they have been featured on CDs as the second incarnation of Rollins Band. The Rosa Records release Three Headed Dog contains 18 songs with a total time of just over an hour. It's an eclectic mix of Kinks/Who-style rockers and quick bursts of metallic punk like (I'm) Obsessed, Sleep and Beg Borrow Steal. The CD also features more of what the New York Post called “an enormous musical vocabulary” with the heavy soul sounds of Let It Go and the beautiful and hypnotic Standing Still. To promote the new CD they will play a lot of European dates, starting in May. The countries they'll visit are Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, and The Netherlands. Do yourself a favor and go see them. Tracks
